Monte Sol, Ourique
The rehabilitation of this existing ruin, located in Ourique, resulted in a residential project that combines the principles of sustainable architecture with the appreciation of local construction traditions.
The project carefully considers orientation and solar exposure, incorporating passive heating and cooling solutions that naturally and efficiently enhance thermal comfort. The intervention employs vernacular construction methods, notably rammed earth (taipa), reinterpreted and integrated into a modern, functional, and minimalist spatial design.
The outcome is a residence that respects the memory and identity of the original building, adapting vernacular architecture to a contemporary context and current comfort standards. The materiality, scale, and spatial organisation create a balanced dialogue between tradition and modernity, offering a sustainable, coherent, and uniquely characterful living space.
